Dr Shi Karim is a Dental Phobia Certified dentist Click Here to verify.
My name is Shi Karim and I am the Clinical Director at Church Road Dental and Cosmetics. I qualified at the University of Liverpool in 2003 and since qualifying I have attended many post-graduate courses worldwide to futher my knowledge in the dental field. I have sat and passed post graduate royal college of surgeon exams and am continually studying, attending courses and pushing myself to further my knowledge in the dental field.
My area of expertise is cosmetic dentistry and have helped numerous patients achieve their dream of a new smile. This is using the most up to date and technologically advanced treatments available. My preference is using minimally invasive treatments such as orthodontics and aesthetic composites but I also have a wealth of experience in placing veneers, crowns and bridges and implants and this can be seen by the cases in my smile gallery. I am also renowned for my treatment of nervous patients and pride myself on good communication to help to relieve any dental phobias that they may have. This is why I have received the recognition of being dental phobia certified.
I am looking at sitting my examinations with the Royal College of Surgeons for a Diploma in Implant Dentistry later this year.
In my spare time I am fanatical about playing and following sports. I visit the gym at 6:30 before work every morning. My belief is that a healthy body also leads to a healthy mind. I am also a very keen Aston Villa supporter (somebody has to be!)
I am married to Gemma who is a primary school teacher at Thorn Grove School in Cheadle Hulme. We have 2 young children who take up most of our weekends.
I am immensely passionate about dentistry and making sure that our dental practice is constantly thriving for the highest possible standards of dentistry and patient comfort. This passion is reflected in my enthusiasm which will rub off on even the most phobic of patients to ensure a pleasant and pain free experience.
I joined the team here at Church Road Dental and Cosmetic in 2013 as a cosmetic dentist.
I’ve always had an eye for detail, which is why I knew dentistry was the career for me.
I learned my craft at The University of Manchester, qualifying in 2007 and completed the Royal College of Surgeons MJDF postgraduate qualification before moving into private practice. I am also a full member of the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.
Always eager to continue learning, I gained a Masters degree in Restorative Cosmetic Dentistry from The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) in 2013, and shortly after completed a two-year Diploma in Dental Implantology from the same institution in 2015. I was also proud to be named the North West’s Best Young Dentist at the 2012 Dentistry Awards, acknowledging my achievements in the profession to date.
Having worked in private practice since 2008, my special interests are in complex restorative cosmetic and implant dentistry. From placing veneers and implants, right through to bridges, crowns and teeth straightening, I enjoy the intricacy that this type of dentistry brings.
In terms of teeth straightening, I offer short-term orthodontic treatments including Invisalign, lingual braces (fitted inside the teeth and ‘invisible’ to others) and traditional braces (fitted to the outside of teeth).
I complement my dental services with facial aesthetic treatments such as Botox and dermal fillers.
Outside of work, I swap my dental cloak for running shoes and get out into the hills with my partner Laura for fell and trail running. I enjoy keeping fit and like to escape to the Lake District when I can to tick off another mountain range!

My name is Natalie. I'm one of the hygienists at Church Road, and you will find me here on a Monday and a Tuesday.
It is thought that about 40% of adults have periodontitis (gum disease), many won't even realise.
My role involves screening for, treating, and helping to prevent gum disease.
The biggest part of treating and preventing the disease is having a good oral hygiene routine- I work with patients to tailor a brushing and cleaning routine that is effective and suits them.
Once a good routine is established treatment can begin. This involves thorough cleaning of the tooth, root, and periodontal pocket, and may take place over a number of appointments.
I really enjoy working as a hygienist as I have the opportunity to meet and help people. I also like being part of the team, as I work closely with the dentists, nurses, practice manager, and reception staff.
Outside of work, I enjoy walking, as I live in Disley and have the beautiful Lyme Park right on my doorstep. I also have started to run. I have taken part in three 10ks so far, and hope to eventually progress to half marathons.
Hi, I'm Caroline the Dental Therapist here at Church Road. You will find me here 3 days a week.
My aim is to encourage and educate all my patients to have a healthy mouth and beautiful smile.
Dental Therapists are a relatively new role in private dentistry as historically worked in community hospitals only.
I work closely with the dentist and undertake a prescribed treatment plan and deliver this care to the patient. Together, the dentist and I strive for an excellent standard of care by supporting each other with the patient at the forefront and included in all decisions.
My role includes all aspects of gum care and maintenance, fillings, taking of radiographs, fluoride treatments, impressions and fissure sealants.
Dr Karim and his team excel in orthodontics and implants and I help out with the maintenance and on-going treatment associated with this.
Previously working as a paramedic in the Royal Air Force, I gained many transferable skills. My love of patient care led to the path of dentistry where a more one on one approach suited me better. My communication and motivational skills were recognised at university when I was awarded the 'Oral B prize for patient motivation'
As a dental Therapist I treat you holistically and don't just focus on the oral treatment needed. My treatment is tailored for you. Your pace, your individual needs met. I excel with nervous patients, and along with the support from my nurse, (you are great Michelle, Thank you!) dental phobic patients feel relaxed and at ease as trustful relationship is built.
In my spare time I enjoy salsa dancing, attending lessons and social dances every week. I am self-taught up to grade 4 on the piano and hope to take the grade 5 examination in the next 12 months. My most recent hobby is flying a micro light and aim one day to take my pilots license.
Hi, I'm Rachael and I am a qualified Dental Hygienist and Therapist. You will find me a Church road every Friday where I love to provide oral health education to my patients and assist in maintaining healthy gums and a healthy smile. I particularly enjoy educating children in their dental health, and motivating all my patients while tailoring treatment to their individual needs. I am also able to undertake fillings as a therapist and continually want to develop my skills. In my free time I enjoy squash, trekking and swimming, and my goal is to swim across Lake Windermere. I look forward to meeting you soon.
My name is Maddison and I am the Reception Manager here at Church Road Dental. I have worked in the dental industry for 9 years and love every aspect of the job. I worked as a dental nurse and front office coordinator in my native Australia until I left in 2011 to travel Europe where I met my partner; I now reside in Manchester where I love continuing to work in dentistry here at Church Road Dental.
My favourite part of my job is patient interaction and guiding patients through their journey of the practice from the first phone call to making final follow up appointments and making sure it is a five star experience for you. It is a very rewarding position and I am very thankful to be working in a dental practice I enjoy so much.
Outside of work I enjoy going to the gym and catching up with family and friends as much as I can.
I look forward to being your first point of contact here at Church Road Dental and hope to meet you soon.
Hello, My name is Helen and I am 29 years old. I am the new Lead Nurse here at Church Road Dental and Cosmetics.
I didn’t start off my working life within dental industry; this actually wasn’t really on my radar at the time of leaving college at the age of 19. I actually started working at Manchester Airport as a check-in assistant for an American airline; this is where my love for interacting with people started.
As a child I was always getting in trouble for talking too much. Yes I was that annoying child that never stopped talking. I just loved meeting new people, asking about their day… and ALWAYS informing them about mine, even if they didn’t really want to know. I knew from a young age that I loved interacting so much that it had to be part of my career.
Fast forward 23 years and here I am, working within an industry where I can be part of changing someone’s life, actual be part of their story, this is why I love working within a private sector, you are able to offer so much more and really change people’s lives for the better.
Outside of work I enjoy spending time with my family, relaxing in a country pub, next to a roaring fire enjoying a lovely roast dinner, or walking to our local Costa coffee for a latte and chat with the locals.
I am also a massive film buff and love to spend time with my friends seeing the latest blockbuster hits at my local cinema.
My new year’s resolution is to visit the gym more and motivate myself to be a better more focused me for 2017.
I’m looking forward to meeting you all soon and hopefully making your day that little bit better.
With a smile from me to you
