Could COVID Impact Your Dental Health?

Along with the COVID-19 pandemic, many people are suffering from a condition commonly referred to as “Long COVID”. 

Common symptoms include fatigue, shortness of breath and even mild forms of depression. Were you aware that a growing body of evidence also suggests that Long COVID may impact your teeth and gums? 

Here are some of the possible complications which could occur as a result of lingering COVID:

  • Those with a weakened immune system may require more time to heal from otherwise common dental procedures.
  • Increased levels of harmful bacteria could increase the chances of developing cavities and/or gum disease.
  • Patients experiencing chronic pain or fatigue may find it more difficult to sit through certain procedures performed by a dentist such as regular cleanings.

The good news is that not everyone will experience the scenarios mentioned above. It is nonetheless important to speak with a dentist if you feel that post-COVID effects may be having an adverse impact upon your oral health.
