Valentine’s Day Tips For The Perfect Smile
From the “Kiss Me” messages on love hearts sweets, to romantic songs on the radio, a kiss is probably on your list this Valentine’s Day. Before cosying up to your loved one this year, make sure your mouth is in good health because, as it turns out, a kiss is more than just a kiss. As you enjoy chocolates and sweets from your sweetheart, do not forget your teeth might be at risk to several dental problems.
Here are some tips to achieve the perfect Valentine’s Day smile:
Be careful with sugar!
Limit your consumption of sugary drinks and beverages, and fewer bacteria will grow in your mouth, and your breath will smell better for those Valentine’s Day antics!
Not all chocolate is equal
If you are buying sweets on Valentine’s Day, dark chocolate is the best choice as it contains lower sugar levels compared to milk chocolate.
Avoid sticky foods on Valentine’s Day
Stay away from boiled sweets, sticky sweets, and caramel, which are terrible for the teeth. Instead, give a card, flowers, or a romantic dinner as a gift. Or, even better, give the gift of teeth whitening!
Eat sweets at the right time
If you can’t avoid sweets, enjoy them after a meal to lower exposure to sugar and bacteria. Be sure to practice a good, thorough hygiene routine afterwards!
Drink plenty of water
Water helps control the bacteria in your mouth. To keep your mouth and body functioning at their best and keep your breath fresher, you should drink 48 ounces of water each day.
Visit your dental practice on the lead up to Valentine’s Day
Get a clean from your hygienist. A professional scale and teeth cleaning helps eliminate plaque build-up, tartar build-up, and bad breath. Plaque exposes your teeth to decay and is very unattractive.
You might need a dental scale and clean if you…
have a plaque build-up on your teeth that can’t be removed by brushing and flossing,
want to take preventive measures to take care of your teeth, or
have stained teeth as a result of smoking and consuming coffee, tea, and other staining foods and drinks.
