A painful jaw – involving the temperomandibular joint (TMJ) – can affect speaking, chewing, and yawning. The following gentle exercises can help ease the pain:
– While keeping your jaw relaxed, use your hand to gently move your jaw to one side for 5 seconds then repeat in the opposite direction.
– Gently pull your jaw down by placing your thumb on your bottom teeth for a few seconds
– Reverse the motion by pushing your jaw upwards using your hand beneath your chin.
