How exactly are crowns fitted?
To fit a dental crown, two visits are normally required. On the first visit, the dentist will assess the damage and then get the tooth prepared in readiness for the crown. This is done by first anaesthetising the area and then gently filing the tooth down to fit the new cap or crown. A digital impression is taken and sent to the laboratory.
Finally, a temporary crown will be fitted. Once the permanent crown is ready (usually 1-2 weeks), the patient is called back for a second visit. During this appointment, your dentist will check the relationship between your crown and bite and the shade before fixing it solidly into place.
