Don’t Forget To Floss

The New Year is a time for resolutions to be made & let’s face it most of us go on a mission to be healthy and one month later we fail.

Why not set yourself the more simple goal of flossing each day?

We understand people have busy lives but why not do it before bed when you have a spare few minutes.

There are all kinds of methods to clean between your teeth and remove more bacteria that cannot be reached with brushing.

You can use regular floss, floss picks, (floss on a handle for easier manoeuvring) Interdental brushes, (miniature bottle brushes to move bacteria between the teeth) & also the oral b air floss which sprays water to remove the bacteria.

5 reasons why you should try and floss daily

To reduce the risk of having cavities
brushing alone cannot clean all around a tooth when there is another tooth right next to it. Flossing completes tooth brushing by removing plaque and foods remaining in    between two teeth which is where tooth decay often starts.

To reduce the risk of having gum disease
Plaque is full of harmful bacteria, and if left around teeth it can accumulate on gums and start an inflammation. This is the first stage of gum disease and can progress to periodontal disease & bone loss.

To prevent halitosis
If not removed plaque that is left in between teeth can cause a bad smell which is one of the number one reasons of having bad breath.

To prevent tartar build-up
If plaque is left around teeth it hardens & becomes tartar which is impossible for you to remove at home. Tartar can also cause gum disease and to reduce its amount around teeth is good for oral health.

To reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease
People with heart disease must be very vigilant with their oral hygiene because the mouth is an entry point for harmful bacteria that, if not eliminated, can eventually reach the heart.
