How can I prevent bad breath?
To keep your breath fresh, you must get rid of any gum disease, and keep your mouth clean and fresh. Here are a few tips of how to prevent bad breath:
Try and keep a food diary and list all the medicines you are taking. Then take this diary to your dentist who may be able to suggest ways to solve the problem.
Brush your teeth and gums twice daily with fluoride toothpaste.
Brush or scrape your tongue with a tongue cleaner.
Cut down on how often you have sugary snacks and drinks.
Floss your teeth – brushing alone only cleans 60% of your teeth surfaces.
Use interdental brushes too.
Use Retardex mouthwash – this is the best mouthwash for gum health and fresh breath.
Chew sugar-free gum – it stimulates saliva and stops your mouth from drying out. Also, it helps to neutralize bacterial acids which cause decay.
Badly decayed teeth can trap food particles which then decompose. This causes an unpleasant smell. Therefore, you will need these teeth treated.
Visit the dentist for an annual dental examination and our hygienist Sue for professional gum maintenance visits every four to six months.
The chances are, we all know someone who has bad breath, but very few people feel brave enough to discuss the problem. It is obviously a delicate matter to tell someone they have bad breath. There is always a risk of offending that person. However, since bad breath may be due to a number of problems including serious health issues it is important you mention this to family and friends so that they can get appropriate help as soon as possible.
If you like you can forward this email to that person. Perhaps it may help their future health.
If you find yourself with bad breath it is advised to see a dentist first. You will need a thorough investigation into this so that any future health problems can be prevented.
