When Should I Call An Emergency Dentist Manchester?

At our hi-tec Cheadle Hulme clinic we have an on call who can help patients with a wide variety of emergency dental issues; but what exactly constitutes an emergency dental visit?

Loose or problem dental implants

Dental implants Manchester are becoming more and more common with over 10,000 placed in the city alone in 2014. The majority of patients enjoy a lifetime of trouble-free implants, however on some occasions problems can and do occur. A patient for example may discover that their implant has become loose or has fractured, or that the crown has broken because the implant has been badly positioned. Either way, this would normally constitute a visit to the emergency dentist, or at the very least, a phone call. The dentist can then decide whether to treat the patient there and then, or to get them to come back first thing in the morning during normal clinic hours.

Chipped, broken or missing tooth

It’s common place to break, chip, or fracture a tooth after a blow to the face, whether it’s a result of an accident, or after chewing on something hard. If it’s a slight fracture or chip, then the patient should make a non-emergency dental appointment where it can be smoothed down, filed, and treated using a variety of techniques. Conversely if the tooth has been knocked out completely, or is badly broken, then you should contact your emergency dentist in Manchester immediately. If you still have the knocked out tooth it is possible that the dentist can place it back in it’s socket. This is best done within one hour of the accident, so time is of the essence.

If you have a severely broken tooth then the network of nerves and blood vessels may also be damaged. In this case it can be painful and as a result your emergency dentist may decide on root canal treatment to help. If the damaged pulp isn’t removed the tooth can easily become infected. Once the pulp has been removed and the tooth cleaned out, the space is then filled and sealed, and is often capped with a crown to lend further protection to the tooth.

Experiencing severe pain or uncontrollable bleeding

If you’re experiencing severe pain, whether this is from a problematic dental implant in Manchester, an abscess, or severe toothache, where no amount of pain killers are helping, then you should contact your emergency dentist right away. Alternatively if you have uncontrolled bleeding from your mouth, teeth, or gums and it won’t stop, then this should also constitute an emergency.

Dental emergencies can crop up at any time so make sure that you’re as prepared as you need to be especially over the extended Christmas holidays. However it’s good to know that our clinic has a highly experienced emergency dentist Manchester standing by just in case you need them. Whether your emergency is a problem, a badly broken or missing tooth, or severe dental pain, it’s good to know that we’re here for you.

Alternatively, for non-emergency treatments across a wide range of dental and cosmetic procedures you can always arrange a consultation to discuss your dental needs. To book yours either visit our website at or phone directly on 0161 486 0743. Shi Karim and the team are waiting to hear from you.
