Smile Of The Month

This patient came into the practice for a free consultation with our smile adviser Jane. Through years of gum disease, the teeth had crumbled and loosened. Another big concern for her was the inability to chew and ultimately eat food without experiencing a lot of pain. In a full comprehensive assessment with Dr Karim, a series of clinical photographs and CT scan was taken. It was decided that the few teeth that were remaining were too far gone to treat. The patient was confronted with 2 options to help her to achieve her dental goals. The first was the removal of all of her upper teeth, followed by the provision of a full coverage denture. This would allow her to improve her bite and the appearance of her teeth but the trade off was having something removable in her mouth, which could potentially move around and also alter her taste sensation. The second option was dental implants and the provision of a fixed upper bridge. This treatment is as close as she would get to having her real teeth. She opted for the implant supported bridge. The treatment was the same day smile. After all the preparation had been completed between Dr Karim and the lab technician, the big day had finally arrived. On this visit, the patient had all of her upper teeth removed. The implants were carefully placed and the lab technician and Dr Karim fitted an implant supported fixed bridge. Within a day, her smile had completely changed. After 6 months, a second bridge allowing us to make minor modifications replaced this initial bridge. The patient was over the moon at the result. She can now chew the food that she’s missed and can also smile again without having to cover her teeth
